Residents of New Juaben Municipality welcomes President Mahama

 

Koforidua, Aug. 22, GNA - Residents of New Juaben Municipality and its environs on Wednesday enthusiastically welcomed President John Dramani Mahama to the Eastern Region on his maiden visit to the area as part of his “thank you” tour of the country.

     The residents of “Mile 50”, at the outskirts of Koforidua and surrounding communities started gathering along the road as early as 07.00 hours when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) got there and by 10.00 hours, the whole place was charged with some groups providing brass band music with others dancing to “boborbo” music.

    Around 11.15 hours, when the crowd look tied and the celebrations seemed to be going down, a Tata van broke down in the middle of the road.

    The crowd immediately regained their strength and accused the driver of the vehicle of attempting to sabotage their programme and pushed the vehicle off the road as the police pleaded with them not to harass the driver.

     The convoy of the President finally arrived at Mile 50 from Mamfe Akuapem around 11.45 hours and the whole area once again burst into celebrations.

     The brass band and the crowd quickly moved in front of the president’s vehicle and marched in front of it as if to usher him into the Koforidua Township.

     The police and the security had a hectic time controlling the crowd as the enthusiastic crowd ran alongside the presidential convoy waving at the president.

     National Democratic Congress (NDC) party sympathizers dressed in party Tee-shirts and in vehicles followed the presidential convoy to the Koforidua Jackson’s Park, where the President express his appreciation to the chiefs and people of the
