Accra, June 12, GNA - The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Olga Cabarga Gomez has confirmed that Air Iberia from Spain will commence direct flights to Ghana from July 17.
The five-hour direct flight which will offer competitive rates is expected to greatly ease flight challenges for Spanish and Ghanaian travellers and tourists who hitherto had to transit through various countries at great inconvenience.
Ms Gomez announced this during a courtesy call on the Minister of Tourism, Ms Akua Sena Dansua in Accra.
She described Spain as a leading tourism destination visited by tourists from all over the world and her compatriots who were reputed travellers were looking for new and exotic emerging destinations like Ghana to explore.
Ms Gomez lauded the project for the Sports Hall of Fame in Accra and said the Museums of Real Madrid and Barcelona, two Spanish giant football clubs, were two of the patronised tourist facilities in Spain, with its attendant benefits.
Ms Dansua welcomed the opportunity to discuss possible areas of co-operation between the two countries.
She said Ghana had a lot of potentials in the tourism sector that could be harnessed for the nation’s development.
Ms Dansua made particular reference to the warm and hospitable nature of the Ghanaian people, as well as the numerous cultural, historical and natural attractions dotted all over the country, some of which must be developed to world standard.
She noted that co-operation in the area of sports tourism was one that the Ministry intended to vigorously explore especially as the soon to be completed Japanese Government funded Accra Visitor Information Centre would have a “Sports Hall of Fame” displaying paraphernalia of the country’s accomplished sportsmen and women.
Ms Dansua invited Ms Gomez to PANAFEST 2012 and World Tourism Day celebrations.
