MASLOC holds training session for taxi drivers

Accra, July 20, GNA - The Micro Finance and Small Loan Centre (MASLOC) on Friday held a training session for 45 taxi drivers in the Greater Accra Region to help reduce the level of road accidents and also enhance their knowledge on faulty cars.
Mr. Mustapha Abubakar , Public Relations Officer of the MASLOC, addressing journalists after the session, said, similar training sessions have been offered to other drivers in the various regions, making this the third phase of the programme.
He explained that apart from the knowledge to be gained, the training would offer drivers, who wish to get their own cars, the opportunity to own one, stressing that 200 Hyundai Vana 2008 module would be given to 200 drivers across all regions on loan basis and distribution would be based on Regions with higher population.
However beneficiaries of the loan facility would be admitted based on the payment of a cash deposit of GHC 2,050 after which they would pay GHC646.23 every month for four years.
Mr Abubakar said Accra, which has a higher population would receive 80 cars, Ashanti Region 30 cars, while the Eastern and the Western Regions would receive 20 cars each.
He indicated that the Volta Region would receive 13 cars, Central Region 12 cars, Brong Ahafo Region 10 cars and the Northern, Upper West and the Upper East Regions would receive five cars each.
