Chiraa (B/A) June 5, GNA – Ms. Mary Adjei, a 27-year-old pregnant woman, was on Tuesday remanded into prison custody by the Magistrate court “B” in Sunyani, for allegedly murdering her 30-year-old boyfriend, Mr. Emmanuel Adusei.
Ms. Adjei, whose plea was not taken, would re-appear before court on June 26.
The police are investigating the case whilst the body of Adusei has been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Chief Inspector Francis Addo told the court presided over by Mr. Joseph Mensah that the deceased was a worker at Oti Yeboah Complex Limited, a timber firm at Abesim, near Sunyani.
The prosecution said Adjei and Adusei resided at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District of Brong Ahafo, where the tragedy occurred around 1600 hours on Monday.
He said at about 1530 hours on the fateful day, Adusei had a quarrel with Adjei over “chop money,” and Adusei went to the bedroom to sleep and the girlfriend followed up.
Chief Insp. Addo said Ms. Adjei stabbed the boyfriend to death with a broken mirror, and called a lady co-tenant to the room.
The prosecution said that Adjei went into hiding but was arrested later by the police.
Adjei told the court that she committed the crime out of self-defence because Adusei pounced on her when she requested for money to buy food.
