Suhum Aug 16, GNA - Kwabena Addo, a 29-year- old unemployed man, was on Wednesday jailed two years in hard labour for stealing four bunches of plantain costing GHC 80 by a Koforidua Circuit Court.
He pleaded guilty.
Police Chief Inspector Patrick Adzadza, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mrs Wilhelmina Hammond that the complainant, is Chief Inspector Ben Nyonator in charge of the Suhum Police but resident at Akim Asafo.
He said the complainant had been experiencing several thefts on his farm and that on July 01 a witness in the case who shares a common boundary with the complainant visited his farm.
The prosecutor said the witness saw Addo emerging from the complainant’s farm carrying some plantain in a fertilizer sack on his back.
The witness quickly confronted Addo on how he came by the plantain because he has no farm in that area.
Addo told the witness that he got lost in the bush and wanted to be directed to one Odikro Tei’s farm.
The prosecutor said before the witness could reply, Addo took to his heels and the witness reported the case to the complainant.
Addo was later arrested and escorted to the farm where four bunches of plantain were harvested and during police interrogation, he admitted stealing the plantain.
