Accra, June 25, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday afternoon returned from a routine medical check-up in New York with a medical report that he has strong energy for Presidential duties.
"The report of the doctors show that I have strong energy enough for the past, the present and the future; and therefore I should drive from here to the Castle to do my work," President Mills said just on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Thousands of Ghanaians, government officials, executives, faithfuls and fans of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) thronged the Airport and gave a hero's welcome to President Mills who had been away for the past 10 days for a routine medical check-up.
Among the dignitaries that welcomed President Mills were, Vice President John Dramani Mahama; Mr Hassan Ayariga, Flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC) and Bishop James Saah of the Action Faith Chapel.
The Delta Airline carrying President Mills touched down at 1235 hours, after which Vice President Mahama led other leading members of the NDC, including Dr Kwabena Agyei, National Chairman; Mr Danny Annang, Vice Chairman, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, General Secretary; and Alhaji Muhamed Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to welcome the President.
After a prayer of appreciation to God by Bishop James Saah for travelling mercies, protection of the President and his life, the clergy asked God to protect the President "from the arrows of the enemy" and peace for the nation.
President Mills, who had extended courtesies to the welcoming party, said it was his tradition to have regular medical check-ups in Ghana, but had to go outside on the advice of his doctors.
President Mills thanked all who offered prayers for him and asked for prayers for all who go on medical check-ups.
"Everything showed that God is in control," President Mills said.
After addressing the crowd, bespectacled President Mills, wearing a black coat with black trousers over a white shirt and tie and shoes to match, jogged to the crowd and waved at them.
He then went into a vehicle, and standing through an open-top, waved to the enthusiastic crowd as the vehicle drove out of the Airport.
