Youth advised not to tie their future to politicians

Koforidua, July 04, GNA - The Eastern Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Eric Bortey, has advised the youth to be wary of politicians or political parties who would attempt to lure them into committing violence.
He reminded them that, they have only one life to live and urged them to ignore any attempt to deceive them to sacrifice their lives for the sake of others, who would not care about them when they get power.
Mr Bortey was speaking at a peace forum organized by Prime Ideas, a non-governmental organization, in Koforidua, for students of second cycle institutions in the area.
He noted that if politicians and political parties had honoured their promises to their supporters, the country would not be having the problem of sympathizers of the various political parties constituting themselves into “foot soldiers’ and harassing their leaders.
Mr Bortey reminded the students that, once trouble starts in the country, their teachers would either leave the country or stay at home during the period and schools would remain closed, which could be the end of their education.
He advised the students to develop critical minds and question any politician who comes to make promises to get their votes on how that politician would be honouring that promise.
Mr Bortey urged the youth to ensure that peace prevails in the country at all times and urged them to talk to their peers to avoid any activity that would bring disturbances.
Nana Osei Owusu, Akwadumhene, called for concerted efforts to stop the idea of pushing young people to foment trouble during elections.
He called for efforts to extend the peace messages to the rural communities, where majority of the people are living.
