Western and Central tanker drivers end strike action

Takoradi, July 11, GNA - Members of the Ghana Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union (GPTDU) in the Western and Central regions have called-off their strike action embarked on last Monday to protest against deplorable roads to oil installations in Takoradi.
The Chairman of GPTDU, Mr Henry Kwame Bobie Ansah, told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that the Urban Roads Department in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis acted quickly by putting concrete materials on gaping potholes along the roads leading to the oil installations in Takoradi.
This, he said, had temporarily brought some relief to them but called for asphalted roads in order to solve the problem on a permanent basis.
Mr Ansah said that since the tanker trucks are heavy, whenever they pass over the concrete patches they go downwards adding that when the rains start pouring again, the potholes would resurface.
It would be recalled that on Monday members of the Ghana Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union embarked on a sit-down strike to protest against bad roads in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, especially roads leading to oil installations where fuel is lifted by the tanker drivers to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) outlets in the Western and Central regions.
