AME Church hails Government for a dignified funeral for Mills

Accra, Aug 14, GNA - The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church has extended appreciation to President John Mahama, the State, the Christian Council of Ghana and entire Ghanaians for the dignified manner in which the funeral of the late president, John Evans Atta Mills was held.

     A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday and signed by the Rev. Dr. Hilliard K. Dela Dogbe, Chief of Protocol, also thanked the Government for all the courtesies extended to the AME Zion Church to be a part of the event.

     “On behalf of the President of the Board of Bishops, Right Reverend Dennis Proctor, the Senior Bishop, Rt. Rev. George Battle, and our Presiding Prelate of the Western West Africa Episcopal Area, Bishop Seth O. Lartey, we once again extend our condolences particularly to His Excellency President Mahama and to the widow of the late President Mills, Dr Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills.”

     The Church assured the Government and the nation that it had heard the plea for peace in Ghana during the run-up to the elections and after, noting that “as the Church embarks on a 50-day period of fasting and prayer, the peace of Ghana would be a key petition to God.”

     The statement said the late President left a defining legacy of commitment to nation building through selfless service, respect for the rule of law, peaceful coexistence and the fear of God.

     “We further assure the Government and People of Ghana that the AME Zion Church is committed to upholding and promoting this legacy as a fitting tribute to the memory of the late president.”
