Sunyani, July 13 GNA - Deputy Commissioner of Police Robert Ayalingo, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, has appealed to all political parties to provide information ahead of their campaign programmes to enable the police to cater for them and ensure order.
He made the appeal after receiving 25 solar pharox lights presented by the Lions Club International in Sunyani to help fight crime and ensure peace in the coming elections.
He said the police had identified all conflict prone areas during the last biometric registration exercise and would ensure that peace prevails in those areas.
DCOP Ayalingo said the donation from the Lion’s Club was very timely and important at this crucial as the police needed such logistics to help fight violence in the community.
He said the lights will be sent to very remote areas in the region saying there were 12 other police stations and barracks in the region where there were no such lights.
DCOP Ayalingo gave the assurance that more of the lights would be requested by the police administration to ensure that all police stations and barracks in remote areas were covered.
He said it sometimes became very difficult to communicate with some police officers in isolated areas when their mobile phone batteries run down and that the solar lights would bring relief to such officers.
The Regional Police Commander said most of the lights would be sent to remote areas in Kintampo, Sene, Jaman and Pru Districts, where incidents of high way robberies keep occurring and help ensure that the police would operate effectively.
He thanked the club for coming to the assistance of the police and asked other institutions and NGOs to come to their aid and help combat crime in the region.
Mr Daniel Tibo, First Vice President of the Accra Lions Club who made the presentation, said the club was committed to providing the necessary requirements to security institutions in line with the Inspector General of Police’s call for support in the fight against crime.
He said the region was chosen as a pilot project after a survey conducted in the police service revealed that Brong Ahafo had the highest number of check points operating without lights and pledged the club’s readiness to extend its services to other institutions.
