Barry Callebaut builds GH¢100,000.00 classroom block for Odaho

Odaho (Ash), April 27, GNA – A GH¢100,000.00 school block built at Odaho, a predominantly cocoa growing community in the Amansie West District, has been inaugurated at a ceremony.

The block has three classrooms, two offices and equal number of stores, a library and computer laboratory.

Barry Callebaut, a cocoa processing company in Tema, provided the funding for the project and made available 72 mono desks and other furniture.

Mr Loic Biardeali, the Managing Director, said this was part of the company’s social responsibility to the people which aims at helping to reduce the incidence of worst forms of child labour in the area.

He said there were plans to construct decent accommodation for teachers in the school.

Barry Callebaut, operates in more than 40 countries worldwide and processes about 65,000 tonnes of Ghana’s raw cocoa beans into chocolate for export to the United States (US), Europe and Asia.

Mr Stephen Adu, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in-charge of Basic Education, advised parents to enroll their children in the school.

He said they should desist from engaging them on the farms and illegal gold mining.
