Consolidate socio-economic integration of the African continent – African leaders urged

Apam (C/R), May 28, GNA – The Chairman of the Gomoa West District Oversight Committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Dr Mark Nii Lamptey has urged African leaders to use the African Union (AU) to consolidate socio-economic integration of the continent.

     He said the founding fathers of the Union used the Organisation of African Union (OAU) to liberate African countries from colonial subjugation and appealed to the leaders to ensure the economic growth of  African countries.

     Addressing a quiz competition organised by the Oversight Committee for Junior High Schools at Apam to mark the AU Day, Dr Lamptey said it was not good for African leaders to be trotting the globe with cup in hand begging for financial support for their countries.

  He urged them to promote trade relationships among the countries to enhance the growth of their economies.

     Dr Lamptey, who is also the Manager of the Gomoaman Health Insurance Scheme, urged African leaders to imbibe the spirit of patriotism and nationalism in the youth to make them responsible citizens in future.

     He urged the leaders to respect democratic tenets and ensure good political and economic governance. They must also ensure good education and good health for their people and create jobs for the youth.

     The APRM Oversight Committee Chairman admonished African citizens to live up to their responsibilities to ensure holistic development of the continent.

     Mr Victor Okoe Marbel, who represented the District Director of Education commended the pupils for putting up a good show at the quiz competition and urged them to learn more about Ghana and the African continent.

     Mr Emmanuel Glagoe, Apam Circuit Supervisor of Education commended the Oversight Committee for educating the pupils on the African Union, in particular how it was formed and the purpose for its formation.

     Apam Salvation Army Junior High School (JHS) scored 25 points to claim the first position, Apam Anglican JHS took the second position with 22 points, while Apam Nyamekye International JHS had 21 points to place third.  EKOs International JHS came fourth with 17 points.

     Prizes were awarded to the winners while certificates were also awarded to all participating schools.
