Mankessim (C/R), Aug. 2, GNA – The World Vision International, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has formed reading clubs in schools in the Mfantseman Municipality, to promote the habit of reading among school children.
The NGO has also organized reading competitions among the clubs and awarded the best readers, to motivate others to cultivate the culture of reading.
Ms Rose Otoo, Assistant Director of Education at the Mfantseman Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and Co-ordinator of the clubs, who disclosed these to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Mankessim, said reading could help school children to improve their studies.
She appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children, and asked them to particularly provide their children with reading materials.
Ms Otoo commended the NGO for contributing to the development of education in the area, and appealed to school children to take the advantage of the efforts and study hard.
Mr Simeon Obotan Larbi, a retired Director of Education, appealed to school children to consider reading as an important aspect of learning.
