High Street and Millennium City School named after Late President

Accra, Aug. 7, GNA - The Accra Metropolitan Assembly will soon name the Accra High Street and the new Millennium City School at the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools, after late former President John Evans Atta Mills.
This was disclosed at an emergency meeting by the Assembly on Monday to pass a resolution of change of name

The Assembly concluded that the Accra High Street should be called “Evans Atta Mills Street”, while the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools will now be known as “President Evans Atta Mills Educational Center of Excellence”.
The initiative was in recognition of the immense contribution by the Late President Mills to improve the social and economic infrastructure facilities in the Accra Metropolis.

Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Mayor of Accra acknowledged that it was important to name the school after the Late President because it was the last project he commissioned before his demise on July 24.

He promised to effect the changes of the names before the burial of the Late President on Friday, August 10.

To further honour the Late President for his good deeds, some members proposed that a statue of Professor John Evans Atta Mills be erected around the National Lottery Authority area to serve as a permanent reminder of his tenure as President of Ghana.
Some also suggested that the Salvation Army cluster of schools should be transformed into an ultra-modern centre of learning to reflect the quest for academic excellence espoused by Prof Mills.
Later, Mr Vanderpuye, Desmond Addo Biney, Presiding Member and other officials of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly signed the Book of Condolence opened at the International Conference Centre.
