Accra, Dec.6, GNA - The Chief Justice (CJ), Mrs. Justice Georgina Wood, on Thursday charged judges to show courtesy and respect to people who visit the courts.
She said these positive behaviors by judges would go a long way to exude the confidence of the people in the judiciary.
Mrs Wood was speaking at the swearing-in of Mrs Ivy Heward-Mills as a Justice of the High Court in Accra.
Mrs Justice Heward-Mills, whose elevation to the new position was delayed due to a judicial enquiry, has been dully cleared of all allegations.
The CJ took the new judge through the Oath of allegiance, Judicial Oath and Oath secrecy.
Mrs Wood warned judges from taking monies from litigating parties since this has the tendency to corrupt them and compromise their integrity.
She asked judges not to entertain interference from family members since that could jeopardize their work as judges and integrity.
Mrs Wood also admonished Mrs Justice Heward-Mills to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in her.
The CJ said: “Each one of us would one day give an account of our stewardship before God almighty”.
Mrs Justice Averill Anin Yeboah, Justice of the Appeal Court, charged the new high court judge to consider her elevation as an opportunity to start from a clean slate, work hard and leave an enviable legacy for the bench.
Mrs Justice Heward-Mills thanked the CJ and people who attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Mrs Heward-Mills promised to dispense justice without fear or favour to all manner of persons in the country.
