Chief of Mumford in Gomoa West District abdicates

 

Mumford (C/R), Aug. 15, GNA – The Chief of Mumford in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region, Nana Edwey X , has abdicated his seat in the interest of peace and development.

     Nana Edwey, known in private life as Kobena Okoh, has been engulfed in a three-year dispute with the people of the town which has drained resources of the town which could have been used for development projects.

     The embattled chief wrote a letter to the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council where he was facing destoolment charges of mishandling of state funds, failure to account for lands sold, dishonesty and failure to observe traditional customs, among others, to announce his abdication.

     Performing customary rites at the shrine in the town to signify the end of the reign of Nana Edwey X, Mr Ebenezer E. Adoko, Secretary to the Town Development Committee announced that Mr Kobena Okoh was no longer the chief of Mumford.

     He informed the citizens not to do any official business with him (Mr Okoh) in his capacity as a chief.

     Mr Adoko said Okumtwi Brebo Essamoadu VII, Mankrado, had been asked to perform the functions of the chief of Mumford till the Nsona Clan, who are the Kingmakers of Mumford nominates someone to occupy the vacant stool.

     A sheep was slaughtered to end the reign of Nana Edwey X.
