Pharmacists in Government Hospitals commended for calling off strike

Bolgatanga, April 22, GNA - Pharmacists in Government Hospitals have been commended for calling off their recent strike.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Alagskoma Asakeya Noble, a member of the Pharmacy Technologists Association of Ghana (PTAG), copied to Ghana News Agency on Friday in Bolgatanga.

It expressed worry that in some cases strikes by health professionals resulted in the deaths of innocent people, particularly children and women.

The statement called on Government and the Fair Wages Commission to consider the demands of the pharmacists to avert any other strike.

It noted that because the  PTAG  was aware of the untold hardships on patients during strikes by health professionals strikes, for almost a year now it continued to negotiate with the Fair Wages Commission on members demands, to avoid  lay down of tools.

The Noble appealed to members that “I also wish to advise our members to note that we are essential service providers and should, therefore, not do anything negative until otherwise directed by the leadership. Members should also ensure that there is patients-medicine compliance.”

It called on PTAG members and other health professionals, particularly those working in deprived areas, to continue to exhibit high degree of professionalism and not to do anything that would tarnish the image of the profession.
