Accra , March 15, GNA - Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) says his outfit would head hunt for a successor for Goran Stevanovic if the Serb is fired as Coach of the Black Stars.
The Federation is scheduled to meet coach Stevanovic on Friday in a meeting that would ultimately define his fate with Ghana and the President says if the Coach’s services is dispensed with, his outfit would quickly head hunt for another trainer in their quest to beat time.
Nyantakyi told GNA Sports that ‘we will head hunt if we decide to allow him to go because that takes less time than opening up the position with advertisement. Between now and our assignment in June is only three months and we have to act swiftly’.
Stevanovic has a year left on his contract and the FA President insists despite widespread media reports that the former Partizan Belgrade Coach has been axed, the Executive Committee of the GFA would determine his future in the Friday meeting.
Nyantakyi, however, failed to reveal whether the head hunting would be restricted to only local coaches, expatriates or both, insisting ‘when we get to the bridge, we will jump over it.’
The envisaged crunch meeting initially scheduled for last Tuesday was pushed to Friday after the GFA cited passport difficulties to have delayed Stevanovic’s arrival in Ghana.
The 45-year old trainer who received 200, 000.00 Euros as entitlement fee when he signed as Ghana's trainer in January 2011, would know by close of the week if he would be shown the exit as speculated by the media or be allowed to continue with the job that fetches him a 30,000.00 Euros monthly salary net of taxes and all deductions.
If retained, the Coach would have another shot at attempting to win the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa, which per the contract would reward him 100, 000.00 Euros.
The GFA would for the first time exercise their powers as sole right holders of extending or terminating Stevanovic’s contract since his appointment a year ago.
In article 9.1 of the two year contract, the GFA insisted that ‘as stipulated at clause 2, herein the duration of this contract shall be for two years but the Association alone shall have the right to extend the contract after a period of two years but where the Association does not terminate the Coach’s contract after the first two years, the Coach shall be entitled to a 25 percent increase in his monthly salary.’
Coach Stevanovic has been under intense pressure after only leading the Stars to a fourth place finish at the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea when he had promised to end Ghana’s trophy drought after a three decade wait as he raised the expectations of the passionate Ghanaian football enthusiasts of a good outing.
