Agra questions conduct of Maputo Probe Committee chairman

Accra, May 9, GNA – Worlanyo Agra, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has said the conduct of Nii Adote Din Barima I, Chairman of the Committee of Inquiry that probed Ghana’s preparations, participation and performance at the 2011 All Africa Games is questionable.

“He made a prejudice statement by condemning the outcome of the Maputo Games when he was given the opportunity to deliver a key note address on behalf of the President of the Athletics Association and the GOC at the Castle when the Vice President of Ghana granted audience to team Ghana upon arrival from the All African Games.” Agra stated in a 12 page response to the Minister of Youth and Sports on the findings of the committee.

It added that, the end of the postscript of the Committee’s Report signed by the Chairman which reads I commend the “bold initiative taken by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Clement Kofi Humado, in setting up this committee. By his action, Hon. Humado demonstrated that the bigger interest of Ghana should reign supreme at all times and override partisan political considerations which have the tendency to undermine national unity and cohesion”.

The NSA boss said he does not understand the import, implication and relevance of that statement hence the suspicion that, the conduct of the chairman is questionable.

Agra, accused the Vice-Chairman of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) of exhibiting questionable conducts in handling his office as a President of a Sports Association.

“He failed to account for public funds he used  whilst leading a delegation as President of a Sports  Association to participate in an international competition”. Agra alleged.
