International Evangelists advocates greater stake of women in politics

Akosombo (E/R), June 11, GNA - Dr Lawrence Tetteh, a UK-based Ghanaian International Evangelist at the weekend called on the political parties to create more room for women to take up leadership roles in politics to promote gender equity.

“The role of women must be encouraged proactively in the 21st Century so that they can play a vital role in the decision process in the society. In fact I am looking forward to the day when I will see more women in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary,” he stressed.

Dr Tetteh was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Aburi in the Eastern Region, when he and his wife; Barbara Sackey Tetteh, a former student of Aburi Girls Senior High School attended the 60th Anniversary Speech and Prize Giving Day of the school.

It was on the theme: Equipping the 21st Century Woman.”

Dr Tetteh who officiated at the church service of the school admonished the political parties and other stakeholders in gender issues not to ignore the organisational ability of women in the society.

He warned gender activists not to abuse gender balance and equality by promoting women supremacy.

“Gender equity should rather be use to promote national cohesion and democratic governance.”

Dr Tetteh said despite the immense power Queen Elizabeth wields, she is still very submissive and humble in life and it would worth it if women in leadership positions emulate her selfless devotion to duty.

He asked the students to prepare their minds that they would be great one day in order to develop the right orientation to play a role in the socio-economic transformation of Ghana.

“Do not narrow your view about yourselves to be only wives, sisters and mothers but as stakeholders in the development of the nation.”

The international evangelist said there was a lot of wisdom in the saying that training of a woman was meant for the goodness of the community and the nation at large.
