Tamale, July 30, GNA – The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani has called on Ghanaians to continue to exhibit the unity and love that the death of the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills has brought into the country.
He said, “The entire country has been unified as a result of the demise of late President John Evans Atta Mills and it would be an honour for him if the country continues to be united even after his burial”.
The Regent made these remarks on Monday in Tamale when he signed the Book of condolence at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council in memory of the late President, and noted that the demise of the President was a big loss to the nation. He said, “The death of the President came to me as a big shock and on behalf of the entire people of Dagbon I wish to convey deepest condolence to his wife, Dr Ernestina Naadu Mills, the family and NDC as a party”.
Kampakuya-Na Yakubu Andani also called on the citizenry to give the current President, John Dramani Mahama, the fullest support and cooperation to ensure that he governs the country productively and successfully.
He later presented a ram and an undisclosed cash donation to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), as tradition required, towards the funeral rites of the President scheduled for 8th to 10th of August.
Mr. Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister who received the delegation commended the Regent for acting swiftly to sign the book of condolence despite the short notice to all traditional authorities in the region about the demise of the late president.
He announced that the Presidency had instructed all regions to present one delegation for the funeral of the late President in view of the large numbers anticipated and advised the Northern Regional House of Chiefs to act accordingly.
Mr. Mabengba also announced that the RCC would observe the seventh day of the late President's departure on Tuesday with a non-denominational service and urged all heads of departments, chiefs, religious bodies and the general public to meet at the Jubilee Park for the ceremony.
The GNA observed that several people including heads of departments, heads of security agencies, people from various political divide as well as some journalists, had also signed the book of condolence in the Northern Region.
