President Mahama receives Nigerian Veep

Accra, Aug 2, GNA- President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday gave the assurance that Ghana would honour all Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) protocols and bilateral agreements despite the death of President John Evans Atta Mills.

    President Mahama made the pledge when Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo of Nigeria led a delegation to call on him at the Castle, Osu, to express their country’s condolence to Ghanaianst.

     President Mahama described the late President Mills as a great statesman, “who I know is highly regarded by his peers in the sub-region.”

   “Under his short term of reign Ghana made phenomenal progress in political and economic circles where peace reigned and economic indicators stabilized and grew”.

    President Mahama said the brotherly relationship between Ghana and Nigeria and other states would be deepened further to maintain and broaden their partnership.

    He said President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria was the first President to call and sympathize with him on the death of President Mills and was therefore not surprised that he had followed it up with a delegation.

    Presodent Mahama added “I am even moved that barely after sending a delegation to him within 48 hours, he was able to send this powerful delegation to condole with the government, Ghanaians and the family of our late president.”

   Vice President Sambo said his call was to officially commiserate with President Mahama, all Ghanaians and the family of the late President and pledged Nigeria’s support for Ghana in this trying circumstances.

   He described late President Mills as a true statesman whose exploits did not only help the growth and Ghana but also extended to the entire continent.
