Bolgatanga, Nov. 08, GNA- Some residents of Soe and Yorogo communities located on the Bolga-Bongo road have petitioned the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Amiyuure, over the positioning of gas and fuel stations in the area.

The petition was copied to the Ministry of Energy, National Petroleum Authority, the Upper East Regional Minister and other regulatory bodies.

One of such structures captured in the petition is a gas station which is near completion and located close to a Children’s Home, a hotel, drinking spot and residential homes on the Bolga-Bongo road.

Among the fuel and gas stations that the residents petitioned for removal are; a Total fuel station located in the heart of Soe, near a primary School.

One of the aggrieved residents, Mr Asaah Mohammed who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga said their lives and property were in danger due to the explosive nature of the infrastructure.

“We are sitting on a time-bomb and we don’t want what happened elsewhere to repeat again. We are having sleepless nights over these developments”, Mr Mohammed said.

He said, “We have lived in this residential area for several years before this recent dangerous gas and fuel station development, some of us had earlier on complained to the assembly and the Environmental Protection Agency, yet the construction has continued and some are near completion”

Among signatories of the petition are; Mr Epsona Ayamga, former Municipal Chief Executive of Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, Mr Nicholas Kumah, the Country Director of Afrikids Ghana and Mr David Laar, a lecturer at the University for Development studies.

The residents have therefore threatened to take legal action if regulatory bodies fail to address their concerns.
