Aduana Stars officially crowned 2016/2017 GPL Champions

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Nov 6, GNA -  Aduana Stars were on Sunday officially crowned winners of 2016/2017 Ghana Premier League Champions at a special coronation match, which saw them beat regional rivals Berekum Chelsea by 2-1 at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Sports Stadium in Dormaa-Ahenkro.

        It is the team’s second title after it first emerged champions in the 2009/2010 season.
        The coronation, initially scheduled for Obuasi in a final playoff with Ashantigold in the just ended league had to be postponed to November 5, after the Management of Aduana Stars had made a request to the PLB to change the venue to Dormaa to allow the team play on home ground in front of the team's supporters.
       Aduana maintained an unbeaten home record, highest number of goals.
     The team, was presented with a glittering trophy, a dummy cheque for $30,000.00 while each player, the coach and technical staff of the team received a gold medal each for winning the title.
       There was such explosion of joy on the part of the players, technical staff and management soon after the trophy was handed over to the team's captain Godfred Saka, after he had lifted it, signifying their status as the new Champions.
       The event was graced by some high profile personalities including executives of the Professional League Board including its Chairman Ashford Tetteh-Oku, Mr Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kwaku Agyemang Manu, the Member of Parliament(MP) for Dormaa Central Constituency, Mr Iddrissa Ouattara, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive among other dignitaries.
      Earlier Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu, the Paramount Chief Dormaa Traditional Area who doubles as the life patron of the club and its bank roller as well as some chiefs from parts of Brong Ahafo Region were led by some officials of the PLB and the GFA to inspect the two teams ahead of the start of the game.
       The Stadium was, unusually packed to capacity as people from all walks of life including members of the media both local and foreign numbering about 200, food vendors, football administrators, sub chiefs had filed into the Stadium to witness the historic occasion.
      The coronation also saw students, women and children given free access to the Stadium to watch proceedings.
         Head coach Yusif Abubakar, in an interview with the GNA Sports expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the team a success.
         There was more jubilation after the ceremony in Dormaa Ahenkro township as vehicles tooted their horns and vehicular traffic heavily built up on the Stadium Junction Road which leads to the Nana Agyemang Badu I Sports Stadium.

Celebrations continued deep into night.
